The Great Debates: Al Pacino or Robert De Niro?

Welcome to the latest “Great Debate”!

This time up, we have a debate that’s been going on as far back as I can remember. Two of the greatest actors of all time… Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.

Being roughly the same age, both of Italian descent, and both incredibly gifted performers, it’s unavoidable that the two would draw comparisons to each other. And they have. Over the course of the past four decades, I don’t think any two actors have been compared and contrasted against each other as much as these two have.

Which one do you choose?

  1. Bit late to the party but I vote De Niro. I think Pacino lost it quicker. De Niro’s early output is mesmerizing. Pacino has The Godfathers and Dog Day but not enough to topple De Niro.

    • No worries. Poll stays open for a week for a reason 😀

I think its wickedly close between the two, I wouldnt shortchange Pacino on Serpice or Scarface either (silly flick, but incredible performance)…

That said, cant go wrong with the De Niro choice, and obviously most people are agreeing with you!

  2. al pacino you can see him doing different roles but we have never seen de niro doing a differnt role like al pacino he is always same so i am with THE GREAT AL PACINO .

  3. Very late to provide an opinion, but I must say this: Al Pacino. His roles in The Godfathers (all 3), Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, And Justice For All makes him almost a mortal lock. Pacino and Bob perhaps gave the two single greatest performances ever (Taxi Driver and Godfather 2), and I had to judge both before making a decision. But I agree. Its like asking a father over which child is his favorite. Tight call.
