What’s going on, everyone, here’s the latest and greatest (title pending) for your listening pleasure!
We had two discussion worthy movies opening this week. The long-awaited Superman film “Man of Steel”, and the surprising comedy “This is the End”. Tank and I have you covered on both of them!
Then, in light of the successful opening of “Man of Steel”, in anticipation of an eventual Justice League movie, Tank and I cast the JLA! Tune in to check out who we think should be the new Green Lantern, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and more!
It’s a great episode and you won’t want to miss it! As always, you can download it directly, here, or search for us on iTunes or Stitcher radio by looking for (title pending) or Tank and Fogs!
I’ll listen on the way home from work today, but here’s my cast:
Wonder Woman: Gemma Arterton
Green Lantern (John Stewart): Michael Ealy
Flash (Barry Allen): Anton Yelchin
Aquaman: Ben Foster
Martian Manhunter: Idris Elba
You’ll be happy on one of those, let’s put it that way. LOL 😉
Hope you enjoy man!
Heh, I guess everyone agrees that Idris Elba should be in a Justice League movie as somebody.
I like both of your casting suggestions as well, several of whom I considered as well. Well, except Triple-H as Aquaman… just, no.
Aquaman has the biggest uphill battle as far as Q-rating; his casting will be critical, and he needs a very strong actor.
BTW, my choice for the baddie in the first movie would be Starro the Star Conquerer, re-done as a Cthulu-esque nightmare elder god, complete with brainwashed cultists and the like.
In the end, we’d discover that Starro was orginally launched from world called Apokolips. In one of his solo movies, Superman would discover that Apokolips was responsible for all of those failed Kryptonian colonies.
LOL!! Cmon, man, you know that there’s no way they ever do Starro! LOL!! That’s funny as shit, though. I like the Apokolips tie in though 😉
Totally agree on Triple H. I honestly didn’t know who he was, I don’t watch wrestling… I’ve looked into it since, and you’re right. Just… no. LOL
You don’t think a re-imagined Starro couldn’t be downright terrifying? Take away the goofy starfish look, Starro is basically the Galactus of DC, except instead of eating your planet it wants to eat the minds of everyone. Given Darkseid’s MO of subsuming the will of all life, it seems like the two should kind of go together.
Hey, man. I can envision a movie where the concept of Starro is absolutely horrifying, yeah. Done right? Its an absolutely frightening concept.
But there’s no way Hollywood ever gets past “Giant Starfish” in their minds. AND I don’t trust anyone to be able to put together a decent movie about it. Christ, I mean look at how many convoluted things we had to forgive in “Man of Steel”, and that’s a straightforward story with a relatively easy villain to understand!! You know? So… that’s where I’m at. 😉
I’ve said it before, but I’ve gotta mention it again. I couldn’t disagree more about Pa Kent. I honestly couldn’t comment on Costner’s performance, though, because the things the character was doing were outright ludicrous.
There was just the one thing, no? I mean, everything else the guy said made perfect sense to me, even the “maybe”, which was in the perfect tone of voice…
I don’t remember a “maybe”.
There was the Twister… but I remember him essentially giving Clark shit for saving a busload of kids.
He told Clark that he was the answer to are we alone in the universe, and that no one wants to hear that answer, and they’ll super-kill you. Which, in the world you and I live in is 100% correct. But in the world Clark lived in… they didn’t do that. At all. Except for Sgt. ‘Murica Meloni.
Okay, I may get to see it this weekend, probably not, but if not perhaps a weeknight the following week, since work is winding up for the year. THEN I can listen. I am avoiding all reviews, opinions, anything, just like I did with Batman last summer.
Heh, well, we’ll still be there when you get everything settled, Ian. I know how you feel though, I don’t listen to others or read reviews or anything nowadays until I see a movie first, either!
I agree with Tank on Man of Steel, I went into the movie with zero expectations and seeing no trailers or commercials (on purpose) and was very pleased
I liked the tone, I liked Supes
In the beginning I was iffy on it because of the changes in the backstory … and losi being a pest
Adams is the only drawback of the film for me
I appreciated that a super hero actually fought in the movies
This is the End was funny, right up until the end (Not the End End) but the resolution was kinda wack
Michael Cera made the early part of the movie for me, and Jonah was hilarity
Not the best movie so far though, F7 and Supes would be tied for that
Casting:
Martian Manhunter: Isaiah Mustafa
Flash: Ian Somerhalder
Aquaman: Cam Gigandet
Batman: Josh Lucas
Green Lantern: Derek Luke
Wonder Woman: Nadia Bjorlin
Villain:
Darkseid: Michael Jai White
Lex Luthor: Jude Law
Sinestro: Alexander Skarsgard
With the Rise of the Planet of the apes tech for Gorilla Grod
“This is the End was funny, right up until the end (Not the End End) but the resolution was kinda wack” That was what made it funny! I think the whole thing worked for me, E.
Wanna hear something funny? I’m reading down your list of casting, going, I don’t know who that is, I don’t know who that is, and then I hit Wonder Woman, and I have to go hit Google images. LOL!! 😀
I would LOVE to see Gorilla Grodd in a movie though. I doubt Warners will ever have the balls to make it happen. 😦
Nadia Bjorlin is amazing looking, and not bad of an actress, I think she could make it happen
The other guys I think has the look … plus relative unknowns would come cheap and multiple movies could be made
RE: This is the end … I was hoping for a twist, something to really send me home laughing
The … End End was amusing, specially with the classic choreography
I think I scored a second mention because Tank made the same point I did, will it hold up over time? I will grant Airplane has a lot of those kinds of topical references (“Jim never has a second cup at home”) or Howard Jarvis in the stinger at the end, and they are the parts that don’t hold up as well. I just worry that these actors may not have a shelf life and that will weaken it’s “Classic” status. Sort of like “Aladdin” and “Shrek”, if you get too inside and contemporary it doesn’t travel well. Of course they may have twenty more years of movies that make them relevant, the future is hard to see. I think there is a ton that is still funny even without knowing all these people well. Shame on me for trying to mute your enthusiasm. A great show. On Justice League , I’ve got nothing, but it looks like everyone is excited by the idea.
“I think I scored a second mention because Tank made the same point I did, will it hold up over time?” LOL, yeah, but what do either one of you know? LOL 😀
“Shame on me for trying to mute your enthusiasm” No worries, bussy, my enthusiasm is unmutable! 😀
Cool idea! I’m not very well-versed when it comes to superheroes yet, but I like Alexander Skarsgard as Aquaman. Wonderwoman is a bit tough, but I’d wish for her to be really well-cast because there just is no real female superhero. I mean, Black Widow was cool but not really important. JLaw would be nice perhaps… Other choices for me would be Emma Stone, Nina Dobrev or Isla Fisher, but I feel they’re a bit controversial.
Funny that you list Skarsgard as Aquaman, did you ever watch the first season of True Blood? I’m pretty sure when Eric was first introduced, he was sitting on a big throne kinda thing in his bar and he was sporting a beard and long hair… I could really see him as Aquaman 😀
Yeah me too. I thought of that again Sunday night when I watched.
It’ll never happen, LOL, cause Aquaman will never get a movie, but… it’d be cool. 🙂
I’m way behind on True Blood, I kinda started to get bored fourth episode last season, unfortunately. I might try to give it another go.
LOL, is he a part of the Justice League, or no? Maybe he’ll play him in that movie :D… I’m super uneducated when it comes to all things comic books, so don’t laugh at me if that’s a stupid question hahaha!
He is, yeah, that’s how he came up in the discussion. In some versions he is at least. There’s always different JLA lineups…
Thought so. Ohhh makes sense. I think I remember Raj in “The Big Bang Theory” calling Aquaman the worst of the Justice League, or something along those lines, in a much funnier way. So that’s the show I get most of my comic book education from 😀
