The Top Ten Bruce Willis Movies

With “RED 2” coming out this weekend, I thought it would be a good time to do a Top Ten featuring the movies of Bruce Willis.

Willis has been churning out films for decades now, and he’s wound up starring in some truly great movies over that time, from movies that have cracked the AFI 100 to movies that are pop culture phenomenons.

Of course, he’s had his share of stinkers, too, but that’s a discussion for another time. Today we’ll focus on his best films!

The Top Ten Zombie Movies

With the impending release of “World War Z”, I thought the timing was perfect to do a top ten of one of my favorite types of horror movies, the Zombie Movie!

Believe it or not, Zombie movies are actually a pretty diverse sub-genre. They range from straight up horror movies and gorefests to low-budget campy films to outright comedies. Hell, earlier this year there was even a Zombie rom com (“Warm Bodies”)!

With such a wide range of movies to choose from it wasn’t easy narrowing it down to ten! Click through to see what made the list!

The Top Ten Leonardo DiCaprio Movies

Here we go, folks, back with another Top Ten for you! This time up, in light of this weekend’s “The Great Gatsby”, we’re taking a look at the filmography of Mr Leonardo DiCaprio!

Leo got his start in films at a young age, and in spite of taking a brief break from acting after “Titanic”, he’s had a pretty prolific career to this point! Further, his filmography is loaded with top-notch films, as he’s worked with some of the best directors there are: Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan, James Cameron, Sam Raimi, Danny Boyle, Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg!

So let’s take a look at his filmography and pick out his ten best films!

The Top Ten Remakes

Remakes tend to get kicked around a lot, because Hollywood has a propensity for churning them out without concern for their quality. With the built-in awareness that comes along with remaking a previous film, studios often can’t help themselves but to crank out cheap, unworthy movies that capitalize on the fact that there’s a pre-existing fanbase ready to buy tickets.

There are exceptions, however. Remakes that turn out to be great movies. In many cases, better than the original! Every time we want to curse out and swear off remakes forever, these are the movies that makes us say, “Yeah, but…”

The Top Ten Steven Spielberg Movies

We saw quite a bit of discussion last week here about Steven Spielberg, and that prompted me to focus this month’s “Top Ten” on officially ranking his ten best films.

It was quite a challenge, actually, because when you talk about Steven Spielberg films, you’re talking about several of the greatest films of all time. He’s one of the most popular directors of all time, due to the fact that he’s made so many of the most popular movies of all time. His filmography also has a number of powerful, dramatic films as well. Certainly he has more than ten that could be considered great, so it was difficult to narrow down the field!

But that’s all part of the challenge, and I’m more than happy to take it on!

The FMR Ranking of Bond Films. All 23 From Worst to First.

Ok, Bond fans. This is it, the last Bond related post for the foreseeable future. 😦 Non Bond fans, bear with me one last time, with the exception of Wednesday’s (title pending), we’re going to move on back to our regularly scheduled movie talk starting tomorrow. I promise. 😀

But there’s one more ranking that needs to be done, and it’s a big one. The films themselves. The Bond series has had numerous ups and downs over the five decades that its been around, giving us some great movies, and some awful ones. And this weekend brought us one that wants to shoulder its way to the top, people are already talking about it being the “Best Bond Ever”.

The Ten WORST Bond Girls

As demonstrated in the previous post, Bond girls often add positively to the legacy of the franchise. Whether they’re objects of affection, team-mates or both, the women of 007 are capable of adding so much to the movies that they’re featured in.

Of course, they can also drag on the movie like an albatross.

Yes, unfortunately, over the course of 50 years and 20+ movies you’re going to have more than your share of bad characters and/or bad actresses. Especially when so often – let’s be honest – the actresses are cast due to their looks. Read on to see the ten worst offenders in the Bond Franchise!

The Top Ten Bond Girls

The women of the James Bond franchise have earned a place of esteem in pop culture all their own. Labelled “Bond Girls”, the actresses of the Bond Franchise are scrutinized, discussed, ranked and rated. At their best, they’ve created characters that earn their own spot in Pop Culture, such as Pussy Galore or Honey Rider. At their worst, they’ve become jokes, such as Christmas Jones.

Here’s my list of the best. Whether they were allies or adversaries, these are the women that illuminated the world of 007 the most brightly. Gorgeous, intelligent, capable, sometimes even deadly, these are the best that the franchise has to offer. The ten best Bond Girls ever!

As a special treat, later on today I’ll post the ten worst as well, seeing as everyone loves to rip into the bad Bond Girls. 😀

The Top Ten Bond Villains

The quality of a Bond movie, to a large extent, is determined by the strength of its villain. Over the course of the franchise, each movie has set up a head honcho, a chief villain, a nemesis for Bond to conquer. And these adversaries and their plans often determine the quality of that particular movie. When they’re poor, it can be near impossible to overcome (“Tomorrow Never Dies”), when they’re done exceptionally well, it can launch the movie into classic status (“Goldfinger”)!

Those villains who gave us chills or made our skin crawl or simply that we love to hate! These are the characters that add to the legacy of the franchise from the evil side of things! The Top Ten Bond Theme Songs

The theme songs to Bond films have become a phenomenon all their own. Some of the biggest music superstars of all time have authored Bond themes. Paul McCartney, Madonna, Duran Duran. Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones. Carly Simon. Chris Cornell. Sheryl Crow… Jack Black and Alicia Keyes.

Many of the songs have earned lives of their own in pop music, topping the charts, and/or becoming beloved classics. They’re a highly anticipated, much talked about aspect of each new movie. Who will do the song, what it will be called, how good will it be.

It’s yet another element of the series that sets it apart and above other movie franchises. NO other film franchise has the association with popular music that Bond does. There’s a litany of incredible Bond theme songs that dates back into the 1960s, and continues to this day.
