“Epic” is an animated action/adventure movie from the people who brought you the “Ice Age” franchise and “Rio”. In it, a plucky young girl finds herself magically miniaturized and thrown into the middle of a battle for the future of the forest.
Up tempo, occasionally humorous and brightly animated, “Epic” is sure to fit the bill for families and kids looking for a trip to the movies.

YES! We made it through the Winter Movie Season, where Hollywood unloads their junk on us, and now we’re headed into the Spring!
Spring is a time for mini-blockbusters, and movies that Hollywood hopes will have decent runs. Last year, “The Hunger Games” was released in March, for example, and we all saw how well that did!

Ok folks, here we go. Part II of the 2012 Fall Movie Preview. Today we’ll break down all the major releases on tap for the month of October, and the first week of November!
As you might imagine, it’s a diverse bunch. There are some ahead that look intriguing, and some that might as well be announcing that they’re garbage already, LOL. Let’s have a look and see if we can’t sort out what’s what!!
Making its debut last weekend on HBO was 2011’s “In Time”, directed by Andrew Niccol, and starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried.
“In Time” is a Sci-Fi thriller with an intriguing premise. In the future, people are genetically engineered to stop aging physically at age 25, but are given artificial expiration dates thereafter. Thus, even though they stay young, they’re not allowed to live unless they keep working, and even then they only extend their time (and lives) in mild increments. Time (tracked on a green counter on your arm) can be earned and spent like money, but when your time runs out, your time is up. The poor are forced to labor and scurry in order to stay alive, while the rich stay safe and secure, protecting their immortality.
The premise sets up a thematically fertile framework. Inequality of wealth, immortality, police states, genetic engineering…
The question for “In Time” is, can it make the most of its potential?
“Gone” is the story of a young woman who was kidnapped, and kept for a short time in a hole in the woods. There she discovers the human remains of previous victims before she manages to escape her captor and flee. The problem she faces on her emergence is that she has no way to prove her story. Searches of the woods fail to turn up the hole she was kept in, and during her ordeal she didn’t actually suffer enough physical trauma for the police to believe conclusively she was abducted.
Now, almost a year after her escape, the killer has returned and she’s once again facing the challenge of getting people to believe her.
Read on to see if “Gone” puts the lotion in the basket or if it gets the hose.
HBO’s premiere movie this weekend was this Spring’s “Red Riding Hood”, starring Amanda Seyfried, Gary Oldman, Virginia Madsen and Shiloh Fernandez.
“Red Riding Hood” is a full length movie, based on the classic fairy tale. The fairy tale, as everyone knows, isn’t all that long… it’s pretty much three scenes tops, right? Red Riding Hood walking to Grandma’s and meeting the Wolf, the Wolf racing ahead to Grandma’s before her, and then the climactic “What big eyes you have” and the rescue by the Huntsman.
As such, they had to expand the mythology a little in order to flesh out a feature-length film.
I’m certain a thousand reviewers have made a wide variety of plays off of the classic quote, but I can’t help myself… I have to say, “My, what a silly movie you have!”
