Now Showing on Cable: “Winnie the Pooh”

Making its debut this weekend on Starz was last year’s “Winnie the Pooh” from Walt Disney studios.

It’s traditionally animated and features all the classic A.A. Milne characters that inhabit the Hundred Acre Wood. Disney has brought them to the screen many times over the years, but in this particular installment, Disney released the picture with surprisingly little fanfare. I barely even realized it had come and gone. Possibly because they released it on the same weekend as “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2”.

Frankly, it made me wonder if Disney was “dumping it”.

If they were, there was certainly no reason to, as “Winnie the Pooh” is wonderfully crafted animated movie, worthy of a place in the Disney heritage.

Tossin’ It Out There: What’s YOUR Favorite Animated Movie?

Watching and reviewing “The Lorax” this weekend got me to thinking about animated movies. There were a couple of commenters and a few other bloggers debate whether or not the film would be enjoyable for adults.

So it got me thinking about animated movies, and here we are. I have no qualms over enjoying animated fare just like every other type of film. The fact that they’re accessible to children doesn’t mean that they’re inaccessible to adults! I enjoy the colorful visuals and the fun stories, the in-jokes and the morals… all of it.

What are YOUR favorite animated movies? If you’ve grown out of them as an adult, that’s ok, you probably had one or two from when you’re a kid, right? Or perhaps now you have children of your own and can enjoy the fact that they enjoy them so much. Regardless, I think one way or another, everyone can get excited about animated movies. Feature length cartoons….

And I want to know what YOUR favorites are! Let me hear them! 😀

Now Showing On Cable: “Rio”

Making its debut on home tvs via the magic of premium cable this weekend was last year’s animated flight of fancy, “Rio”. Brought to you by the creators of “Ice Age”, the film features celebrity voicing courtesy of Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, George Lopez, Will.I.Am, Jamie Foxx, Tracy Morgan and Jemaine Clement.

It tells the story of a Blue Macaw (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg), “Blue”, who was raised in captivity as a pet. When it’s discovered that he’s one of the last remaining birds of his species, he’s returned to Brazil with the intention of mating him with a female Blue Macaw (Anne Hathaway) who is currently held in captivity.

Of course, she’s not too keen on the idea. Nor is she fond of being held in captivity. So it’s not long before the mismatched couple are on the run… With one major problem.

“Blue” can’t fly.
