Three years ago, the original “Despicable Me” took everyone by surprise by offering a film with comically inept, soft-hearted villain who was slowly won over by three children. Now Gru, his family and his minions are back, only this time, he’s working for the good guys and finds himself facing romantic entanglements as well.

It’s an entertaining summer film, but in spite of its best efforts, it can’t live up to the magic of the original.

Snitch

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson goes undercover as a cartel drug runner in order to spring his son from prison in this serious, crime action/drama.

For something as surprisingly straight-faced as this movie is, it turned out to be decently entertaining. I doubt that it will prompt audiences to call out for more dramatic roles for Johnson, but he certainly acquits himself adequately here and provides us with a watchable, entertaining flick.

The 2013 Winter Movie Season Preview

Ok, boys and girls. The Holiday Season is over… and the Spring Season, full of mini Blockbusters, is still months away.

Between now and then lies Hollywood’s dumping ground. The Hollywood fields lie fallow in the winter, bearing little quality product. It’s the two months of the year we need to “Get through”. While January typically offers some limited releases from the prior year going wide, there’s typically little else to get excited over.

Will this year be different? Are there any movies to get excited about these next two months? Let’s take a look at the release slate and see what we’ve got!
