Movies I Want Everyone to See: Role Models (2008)

This is an easy one this week. There is no historical value, cinema language, or back story intrigue to make this a movie you should see. It is just funny as all get out with wiseacre talk, inappropriate life lessons and a cast of funny people who are just trying to entertain you for a couple of hours. If you are a fan of films like “I Love Man” or “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” then you don’t want to miss this treat starring the slacker gods Sean William Scott and Paul Rudd. This is dumb comedy done in a smart way and it has so many quotable lines that it could easily displace Caddyshack on the list of guy movies that guys will quote incessantly.

Kick Ass 2

“Kick-Ass 2” certainly isn’t as fun or unique as it’s predecessor, but it has it’s moments.

This Is the End

“This Is the End” is a riotously funny movie about six comedic stars trapped in one mansion as the Apocalypse unfolds around them. The personalities are funny, the situation is funny, everything is funny.

The first great comedy of 2013.

The 2013 Summer Movie Preview – Part 1

Summer is finally upon us! With this Friday’s release of “Iron Man 3”, the 2013 Summer Movie season officially begins!

The summer season is defined by big budget, high-profile releases, and this summer is no exception. We’ll cover what’s coming out in May and June today, and then look at July and August tomorrow.

Movies That Everyone Should See: “Superbad”

Fogell: Yo guys! Sup?
Seth: Fogell, where have you been, man? You almost gave me a goddamn heart attack. Let me see it. Did you pussy out or what?
Fogell: No noooo, man. I got it; it is flawless. Check it!
Evan: [examining the fake ID] Hawaii. All right, that’s good. That’s hard to trace, I guess. Wait… you changed your name to… McLovin?
Fogell: Yeah.
Evan: McLovin? What kind of a stupid name is that, Fogell? What, are you trying to be an Irish R&B singer?
Fogell: Naw, they let you pick any name you want when you get down there.
Seth: And you landed on McLovin…
Fogell: Yeah. It was between that or Muhammed.

Movie 43

With a handful of funny segments mixed in throughout its lineup of gross-out vignettes, “Movie 43” isn’t half as bad as I had thought it would be.

Of course, considering that I had expected it to be a sign of the apocalypse, that’s not actually saying much.

The 2013 Winter Movie Season Preview

Ok, boys and girls. The Holiday Season is over… and the Spring Season, full of mini Blockbusters, is still months away.

Between now and then lies Hollywood’s dumping ground. The Hollywood fields lie fallow in the winter, bearing little quality product. It’s the two months of the year we need to “Get through”. While January typically offers some limited releases from the prior year going wide, there’s typically little else to get excited over.

Will this year be different? Are there any movies to get excited about these next two months? Let’s take a look at the release slate and see what we’ve got!

ParaNorman

“ParaNorman” is a stop motion animated movie about a young boy who can see, and speak to, the dead. The unpredictable situations that occur due to his abilities cause an enormous amount of social stigmatism for him. No one in his life believes him, and everyone feels that he’s odd.

Things change on the anniversary of the town’s famous Puritan era witch trial, when Norman is the only one equipped to face the challenges of the supernatural events that arise. Can he save the day?

It’s a charming and unique animated movie. Colorfully creepy for kids and fun for all ages, “ParaNorman” is a strong contender for my favorite animated film this year.

Fright Night

When I first heard that “Fright Night” was getting remade, I thought to myself “Now there’s the type of movie they should remake.” I mean, I remember the name – GREAT title, right – but the movie not so much. So it had that “Pre-existing market awareness” that Hollywood is seeking so freaking desperately these days, yet it’s not messing with any cherished memories. I’m sure the movie has some folks who cling to it more than I did, but no one could really argue it was any kind of classic or anything. So yeah, there you go Hollywood, that’s a good one. Go to town.

The problem is that this movie pretty much perfectly exemplifies why Hollywood should stop remaking movies.
