Fast & Furious 6

FF6

So The Rock has to get the Fast and Furious gang together to help him stop this guy who’s stealing… I don’t know, something… but his crew is a bunch of high stakes drivers so The Rock needs Toretto and his crew to help, and Letty is back, but she’s with the bad guys now so they want to save her, and Dom has to like talk her out of it “We’re family” he tells her, but she doesn’t listen at first cause she has amnesia and there’s all kinds of car chases and one of them has a TANK involved and then another time they’re on a runway racing a plane, and Vin Diesel gives this guy a flying headbutt and then he and the Rock are fighting dudes together while Paul Walker and everyone are like racing around underneath the plane engines…

It was awesome. 😀

Pain & Gain

Pain and Gain

Based on an unbelieveable, appalling true story, “Pain & Gain” is a tale of three meat-headed bodybuilders who kidnap and torture a local businessman until he agrees to sign over all of his assets. Even more shockingly, they almost get away with it.

In Bay’s hands, it becomes an indictment of the American dream, especially the obsession with strength, size, status and success. He’s the perfect director to make a bigger, stronger, dumber movie about big, strong, dumb men who want it all and are willing to go to any lengths to get it.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

GI Joe Retaliation

Cartoonish heroes and villains, each with their own code names and costumes, hold sword fights and machine gun battles in furtherance of the world’s thinnest plot.

I wish I knew what it is that makes bad movies enjoyable… so that I could take some and give it to “G.I. Joe”.

spring

YES! We made it through the Winter Movie Season, where Hollywood unloads their junk on us, and now we’re headed into the Spring!

Spring is a time for mini-blockbusters, and movies that Hollywood hopes will have decent runs. Last year, “The Hunger Games” was released in March, for example, and we all saw how well that did!

Snitch

Snitch

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson goes undercover as a cartel drug runner in order to spring his son from prison in this serious, crime action/drama.

For something as surprisingly straight-faced as this movie is, it turned out to be decently entertaining. I doubt that it will prompt audiences to call out for more dramatic roles for Johnson, but he certainly acquits himself adequately here and provides us with a watchable, entertaining flick.

The 2013 Winter Movie Season Preview

Winter

Ok, boys and girls. The Holiday Season is over… and the Spring Season, full of mini Blockbusters, is still months away.

Between now and then lies Hollywood’s dumping ground. The Hollywood fields lie fallow in the winter, bearing little quality product. It’s the two months of the year we need to “Get through”. While January typically offers some limited releases from the prior year going wide, there’s typically little else to get excited over.

Will this year be different? Are there any movies to get excited about these next two months? Let’s take a look at the release slate and see what we’ve got!

Now Showing on Cable: “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”

Journey_2

Premiering this weekend on HBO was this year’s “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”.

Starring Dwayne Johnson, Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzman and Michael Caine, this “family friendly” film posits that Jules Verne’s “Mysterious Island” actually exists.

When a young man gets a coded transmission from his adventurer grandfather, he and his stepfather head off in search of the legendary island, only to discover more than they bargained for. Along with the family crew of the downed helicopter they chartered to get them there, they’ll have to find a way not only to survive, but to escape the “Mysterious Island”.

Aimed squarely at kids, this film needs to be given a little bit of slack for its juvenile sensibilities and slight characters.  But not too much…

Now Showing on Cable: “Fast Five”

20120408-201804.jpg

HBO’s big new premiere this weekend was 2011’s “Fast Five”, the fifth installment in “The Fast and the Furious” franchise.

“Fast Five” returns all the major players – Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster – plus returns several familiar faces from prior chapters such as Tyrese Gibson, Gal Gadot, Sung Kang, and Ludacris. This time, though, they up the ante by adding Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to the mix.

But even though they assembled a “Fast and Furious” dream team, can they recapture the high-octane magic of previous outings?
