The Cold Light of Day

“The Cold Light of Day” is the “story” of a young man whose family is kidnapped while on a sailing holiday. While he is briefly separated from them, their family sailboat is boarded and his mother, brother and brother’s girlfriend are taken. Eventually he discovers that his father (Bruce Willis) is a CIA agent, and that the family is being used as pawns in an international espionage battle over a mysterious briefcase.

Unfortunately, the brief plot description above is deeper than the shooting script the production worked off of. “The Cold Light of Day” is one of those generic, nondescript action films that give action movies a bad name.

The 2012 Fall Movie Preview – Part I

With this weekend’s release of “The Expendables 2” and “ParaNorman”, the summer movie season is pretty much over. One weekend remains in August, and those movies wont have much room to run before school is back in session.

Nope, the season of the big blockbuster is behind us. It’s time to look ahead to the fall.

Not to despair, though, the fall brings sharp movies for the thinking movie fan. Movies which may have more selective box office appeal, but which may be some of the best movies all year.

So click through to take a look at the first part of this year’s fall preview. Today we’ll look at the last week of August, plus September, and then we’ll come back tomorrow with October and the first week of November. Together they’ll take us right up to the start of the Holiday movie season, and the November 9th release of Skyfall!

Immortals

I had been here before.

Unsuspecting. No particular anticipation.

But I’m a veteran, experienced. Getting grizzled now even.

So when that first swell started… I noticed it right away. The first visuals, I mean, right from the opening shot. I was like “Ooh. Garish.” The dialogues starts. Mickey Rourke sets a priest on fire. There was a different taste in the air. I sat straighter in my seat.

This was “Awesomely Awful” territory. And big surf at that.

I geared up. Headed out. The fight scenes started and a parade of people in silly looking costumes flatlined dialogue about Gods and mortals. “Get me out there, get me out there” was all I could think. This was a monster. “Theseus” fights a “Minotaur” that’s really just a big dude in a barbed wire bull mask. I tweeted madly, laughed out loud openly. This was legendary stuff! “Get me out there get me out there!”

Little did I know what I was facing.

News Worth Sharing: The first pic of the new Superman

So, just as I made my first post here yesterday about the upcoming Superman movie, the WB today release the first image of Henry Cavill wearing the suit for the upcoming “Man of Steel: No, Superman doesn’t have any kids”

I’m fine with the outfit… I am curious if they hired William Forsythe’s hair stylist though.

The one thing that kind of bugs me a little is that the setting of the photo seems to support the whole “darker and edgier” bullshit that Warner Brothers has apparently latched onto. Newsflash to Warner Brothers, people did not go to see Batman because it was dark and edgy. They went because it was true to the character (and that particular character happens to be dark and edgy) and because it was GOOD.
