Peter Jackson returns to Middle Earth with a worthy prequel to his “Lord of the Rings” trilogy in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”.
“The Hobbit” is much lighter in tone, and stuffed with action sequences, but remains a shining example of how modern fantasy films should be crafted.
It has an incredible pedigree to live up to, but I think “The Hobbit” adds to the franchise proudly.
Ok, folks, here we are! One of the major movie release seasons of the year is upon us, The Holiday Movie Season!
The Holidays started a little early this year, with “Skyfall” (undeniably a major release) opening in the first week of November. So we’re underway! Between now and the end of the year, we’ll see some of the biggest films on the 2012 docket get released, including the conclusion to the “Twilight” Saga, “The Hobbit”, and “Django Unchained”!

“Cloud Atlas” is multi-layered epic, telling no less than six separate narratives concurrently, each featuring the same characters in different temporal incarnations.
It’s strikingly original, sumptuous to look at, and incredibly ambitious.
It’s also extremely long, mildly incoherent, and not one half as profound as it would like to be.
Certainly it’s a commendable film, but “Cloud Atlas”‘ reach far exceeds its grasp. Respect needs to be paid for aiming so high, and due to its lofty aim, the end result is a high calibre movie. But this film illustrates why more points are awarded for routines with higher levels of difficulty… namely because they’re so much harder to pull off.

As you might imagine, it’s a diverse bunch. There are some ahead that look intriguing, and some that might as well be announcing that they’re garbage already, LOL. Let’s have a look and see if we can’t sort out what’s what!!
I didn’t have high expectations for this movie, I have to confess. The marketing campaign seemed completely focused on the Steve Rogers / Captain America origin story. How many times did I have to see that weird, CGI skinny Chris Evans getting beat up in an alley before I began to wonder what they were hiding from the rest of the movie? I truly began to suspect there was something wrong with the post-Captain America-transformation part of the film.
Nah. Nope. Not really.
“Captain America: The First Avenger” is a really solid, fun Superhero movie. It won’t crack my top ten in the genre, but there’s nothing for Marvel/Disney to be ashamed of here. It’s a fun summer movie, does justice by the comic book character, and serves to further set up the upcoming “Avengers” movie (as if it needed it.)
