Under the Radar?: “Robot & Frank”

“Robot and Frank” is a unique indie film about a man who befriends his home healthcare Robot… by teaching it to help him commit burglaries. After Frank is given the robotic home health care aide by his concerned children, he finds a way to manipulate its programming in order to help him reinvigorate his life of crime.

Starring Frank Langella, Susan Sarandon, Liv Tyler, James Mardsen and the voice of Peter Sarsgaard, “Robot & Frank” is an indie gem that will entertain and warm your heart.

Now Showing on Cable: “Hop”

Making it’s debut last weekend on HBO was last year’s animated feature, “Hop”, featuring the voice work of Russell Brand, Hugh Laurie and Hank Azaria and starring James Marsden, Kaley Cuoco, Elizabeth Perkins, Gary Cole, and David Hasselhoff.

It’s a live action/animated blend Easter themed children’s movie, brought to you by Illumination Entertainment, the same folks who did “Despicable Me”. It’s the story of a bunny who doesnt wish to inherit the title and responsibilities of Easter Bunny from his father, so he runs away to the world of humans.

Hi sojourn into the land of people triggers a chain of events that may just lead to the first human serving as Easter Bunny.

Now Showing on Cable: “Straw Dogs”

This weekend’s premiere on Starz was last year’s “Straw Dogs”, the remake of Sam Peckinpah’s 1971 film.

Starring James Marsden and Kate Bosworth (both of whom I still hold grudges against for their complicity in “Superman Returns”), “Straw Dogs” is the story of a couple who return to the small Mississippi town she grew up in. Her father is recently deceased and they’ve inherited his home, but it’s suffered some damage in a recent hurricane. The crew that the couple hire to repair the home is comprised of men she knew from high school… unfortunately, they’re drunken, violent townies.

When the crew begins to lust after her, things get out of hand.
