Movies I Want Everyone to See: Role Models (2008)

role_models_ver2This is an easy one this week. There is no historical value, cinema language, or back story intrigue to make this a movie you should see. It is just funny as all get out with wiseacre talk, inappropriate life lessons and a cast of funny people who are just trying to entertain you for a couple of hours. If you are a fan of films like “I Love Man” or “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” then you don’t want to miss this treat starring the slacker gods Sean William Scott and Paul Rudd. This is dumb comedy done in a smart way and it has so many quotable lines that it could easily displace Caddyshack on the list of guy movies that guys will quote incessantly.

Wreck-It Ralph

Similar to what “Toy Story” did with toys, “Wreck-It Ralph” envisions a world where video game characters are actually alive, and free themselves from their game programing each night once the arcade closes. When the villain of the game “Fix-It Felix” chafes at being ostracized from the celebration of the game’s 30th anniversary, he sets out on a quest to prove he can be a hero, too.

The result is a fun, funny, family-friendly film that demonstrates the value of challenging the labels that world puts on you.

Now Showing on Cable: “Paul”

Opening on Cinemax this weekend was “Paul”, 2011’s Alien comedy starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Seth Rogen.

“Paul” is the story of two British UFO fanatics who come to America for Comic-Con, then plan to take a mini cross-country tour of famous UFO hotspots across the southwest.

They don’t expect to actually encounter an alien though.

Especially one that talks like Seth Rogen.
