The summer season is defined by big budget, high-profile releases, and this summer is no exception. We’ll cover what’s coming out in May and June today, and then look at July and August tomorrow.

Fogell: Yeah.
Evan: McLovin? What kind of a stupid name is that, Fogell? What, are you trying to be an Irish R&B singer?
Fogell: Naw, they let you pick any name you want when you get down there.
Seth: And you landed on McLovin…
Fogell: Yeah. It was between that or Muhammed.

New Episode of The (title pending) Movie Podcast with Tank and Fogs!!

What’s up, what’s up, what’s up?

Here we go, Wednesday – hump day – the day for brand new episodes of (title pending)!

We have a good one lined up for you this week! After taking a little heat for omitting “Watchmen” from my top ten superhero list last week, I answer in (title pending) fashion to open our show! And then we finally launch the successor to “Has Tank Seen Scarface”! 

After the Box Office Round-Up, we offer up reviews of “Step Up Revolution” (well, ok, I do, LOL) and then we both tell it like it is on “The Watch”! Seeing as “The Watch” was just out, our feature discuss revolves around the “Frat Pack”. Tank and I take a high level overview of each of the gang, and debate what their best and worst movies were. Will Ferrell, Steve Carrell, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jack Black, Paul Rudd and the Wilson brothers! They certainly have a wide range of quality represented in their collective filmography, that’s for damn sure!

The Watch

After a 3rd shift security guard gets murdered, the manager of the store (Ben Stiller) he worked at decides to start a neighborhood watch. He attracts a ragtag crew of volunteers to join him, including a family man looking for some “Me Time” (Vince Vaughn), a psycho cop wanna-be (Jonah Hill) and a newcomer to the area who’s hoping to meet some ladies (Richard Ayoade). They set out to find the killer, but what they find is much, much worse.

Their town has been invaded by aliens.

It’s a premise with promise, but the material fails to deliver much. Worse yet, the stars, who are going to be the reason that most people show up for this, completely fail to show up.

21 Jump Street

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum play a couple of high school classmates who find themselves thrust back into the high school fish tank years after graduating – this time as undercover cops. But their investigation isn’t the only thing they have to figure out. They find that they have residual issues from their own high school experiences that they need to work through, and of course, they need to figure out how to deal with each other.

It makes for a surprisingly funny movie that entertains all the way through.

PODCAST!!

After a couple of guest hosting gigs, it felt GREAT to be “home” on the (title pending) Movie Podcast with Tank and Fogs!

This episode we break down three movies out in theatres now… “The Sitter” with Jonah Hill, the second installment of Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes franchise, “Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows” and the blockbuster action movie, “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”.

Listen in for a great discussion on those flicks, plus advice on how to save money on your taxes, how to help your kids find the self-respect to stand up to bullies, plus the real reason science can’t isolate the Higgs Boson (God) Particle!!

The Sitter

I don’t have anything much dramatic, or creative, or funny to say about “The Sitter”.

I have to say, my muse is failing me right now.

“The Sitter” is a tepid comedy about a reluctant babysitter who has to oversee three behaviourally challenged children, then makes some unfathomably irresponsible choices, and winds up in a series of completely implausible situations.

Unfortunately, in spite of all the far-fetched, ridiculous reaches of its plotline, none of it is all that funny.

Moneyball

“Moneyball” is an excellent, excellent movie. Let’s get that out of the way.

Brad Pitt is at his glib, witty best and Jonah Hill is given a role that perfectly fits his stunned, blinking comedic talents. Fueled by top notch dialogue from Aaron Sorkin, the duo inject plenty of very funny comedy into this compelling, excellently paced, well directed movie.

But let’s put this right up front. This is NOT your traditional sports movie. In fact, it’s such an unconventional turn from the sports movie genre that I’m sure that some people are going to detract points from the movie for it, while others give it tons of credit.

In all honesty I still haven’t figured out which side of the foul poul I’m going to be on.
