Sylvester Stallone returns to B-Movie badassery with “Bullet to the Head”, a straight forward action flick about a hit man who teams up with a cop in order to track down the clients who double crossed him and killed his partner.
It’s a decent use of your entertainment dollar, especially if you’re a fan of 80s action films, where the lone hero has to shoot his way through a string of underlings in order to get to the big baddie.

In the year of America’s bicentennial, we were introduced to a new American hero for the first time. An underdog with heart, given a miraculous opportunity, who gives it everything he’s got. The film would wind up winning three Oscars, including Best Picture, and inspire a string of sequels that would extended 30 years.
A true testament to the human spirit…

Ok, boys and girls. The Holiday Season is over… and the Spring Season, full of mini Blockbusters, is still months away.
Between now and then lies Hollywood’s dumping ground. The Hollywood fields lie fallow in the winter, bearing little quality product. It’s the two months of the year we need to “Get through”. While January typically offers some limited releases from the prior year going wide, there’s typically little else to get excited over.
Will this year be different? Are there any movies to get excited about these next two months? Let’s take a look at the release slate and see what we’ve got!
“Dredd 3D” is the story of a heavily armed, stoic police officer, set in a dystopian future where officers of the law are referred to as “Judges” due to their authority to immediately pass sentence on criminals – including death sentences. When Judge Dredd and the rookie he’s evaluating get called to a triple homicide, they wind up discovering the manufacturing center of a drug that’s been plaguing the city: Slo-Mo.
A relentless, remorseless cleansing effort ensues.
“Dredd 3D” is dark, gritty, violent, bleak, brutal and deadly serious. Fun for the whole family, and good for kids of all ages!
Two years ago, Sylvester Stallone parlayed the momentum of his comeback successes of “Rocky Balboa” and “Rambo” into the start of a new franchise, “The Expendables”. Featuring a virtual who’s who of aging action stars, “The Expendables” dealt up a heaping portion of carnage and camaraderie and proved to be surprisingly enjoyable movie. It was also successful enough to warrant a sequel.
For the return engagement, Stallone recruits additional semi-retired movie heroes (Jean-Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris), and expands the roles of pals Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis. But would it be enough to support an already thin concept?
Fear not, “Expendables” fans, “The Expendables 2” more than delivers on its B-movie promise of bullets, blood, and bromance.

It really was one of the most fun panels I’ve had the pleasure of attending, both stars were in great spirits, and that sort of thing is completely infectious.

Hello from the hotel… Thursday, day one of Comic-Con, is behind me. But what a memorable day it wound up being.
After getting worn down by the floor in the morning, I decided to check in to the Hall H line earlier than expected, and do a little blogging from the Hall H grass as I waited. Never happened. Unexpectedly, the line rolled right in to the auditorium, and I wound up getting in within 30 minutes or so. Practically no wait at all by Hall H standards.
The good news was, I was there in plenty of time for the Disney panel. The bad news was, for the second time in my three year Con career, I had to sit through a “Twilight” panel. LOL
But it wound up being an amazing day in the Hall. For having little plans or expectations on the day, I wound up seeing directors Tim Burton and Sam Raimi, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and John C Reilly… and then Jackie Chan served as a warm up act for the best panel I’ve ever seen… “The Expendables 2”, which notably featured Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger sharing the same stage!

This time up, it’s a question that’s hounded movie goers for 30 years. Who do you prefer? Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger?
These two men authored a string of movies that helped define the tone of movies in the 1980s. Each has multiple franchises, successful one shots, plenty of cheesy movies, and some horrendous flops.

Premiering this weekend on HBO was last year’s “Zookeeper”, starring Kevin James, Rosario Dawson, Leslie Bibb, and a host of celebrities lending voices to animals, including Nick Nolte, Adam Sandler, Sylvester Stallone and Cher.
This movie would have had the distinction of being the first movie I’d reviewed during its theatrical run and then again when it hit premium cable, except I skipped it in theatres, running a “review” that simply said, “Yeah, right. I’d rather get poked in the eye.”
I did, however, view it as part of my “research” for the MAJOR Awards. It was a strong contender for a “Worst Picture” nomination. It didn’t wind up in the field though… Does that mean I actually liked it?
