The 2012 MAJOR Awards: The Best Picture Nominees

Best Picture Nominees

Alright, people. Here we go. The crème de la crème. The year’s best movies. The top ten movies of 2012.

2012 was an incredible year for movies, with an abundance of huge blockbusters that delivered on their promises, and your typical mix of Oscar worthy material in the mix as well. This list could have turned in to a top 20 with ease.

But I made the tough calls, and whittled it down to just ten.

Click through to see what made the final cut – the best movies of 2012!

New Episode of The (title pending) Movie Podcast with Tank and Fogs!!

How’s it going everyone? I hope all is well.

This week’s (title pending) is a little more somber than most, as Tank and I touch base briefly on the tragic events in Colorado last week. It didnt feel right to open up singing and goofing around and having fun in light of the horrifying events that took place, without discussing them in some way.

We do resume our regularly scheduled podcast, however, delivering the box office round-up, our featured review (“The Dark Knight Rises”), and on the radar!

Our featured discussion this week is our favorite Superhero movies of all time. Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man… find out which we list and which we leave off!

You can download the episode directly here or find us on iTunes by searching for Tank and Fogs or (title pending)!

This week also marks the end of the three-part epic podcast trilogy celebrating the Christopher Nolan “Dark Knight” trilogy that I took part in with Brian Roan of and Ryan McNeil of The Matinee. We discussed each of the films in turn, beginning with “Batman Begins” on DearFilm, then continuing last week when Brian and Ryan joined Tank and I for a break down of “The Dark Knight” on (title pending), and now concluding as Brian and I guest on The Matineecast to review “The Dark Knight Rises”! The three of us have a lengthy… spirited debate regarding the concluding chapter, let’s just put it that way. It’s the final chapter in a thorough examination of the entire trilogy, a must listen to for fans! Be sure to check it out!

The Dark Knight Rises

“The Dark Knight Rises” is the concluding chapter to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, the movie series that resurrected the moribund Batman franchise. Having given us the excellent “Batman Begins” and the legendary “The Dark Knight Rises”, the bar was set high for the grand finale, so one can hardly blame Nolan for wanting to give us something grandiose and epic for the final chapter.

And to a large extent, he succeeds. There’s plenty of Batman angst here, a sprawling cast of characters, a worthy adversary, and the city is certainly in peril. Yet the movie is so serious it’s smothering, there’s a dearth of action, and the “epicness” occasionally crosses the line into bloat.

There’s a very well made movie here, but I didn’t enjoy it half as much as I had hoped to.

News Worth Sharing: The First Pic of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman

WB is in a giving mood as of late, and this morning brings us our first pic of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle in the upcoming Batman movie, “The Dark Kinght Rises”.

I don’t think I really saw her as the Catwoman type… not sure this picture helps. But I’ve learned that I don’t really know shite when it comes to casting, because I thought Heath Ledger was a terrible choice to play the Joker, and he sure as hell proved me wrong.

It’s not the purple spandex outfit from the 90s (Dammit!!) but this is probably more reasonable, I guess.
