Kill the Irishman is a 2011 film starring Ray Stevenson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Christopher Walken and Val Kilmer.
It’s the story of Danny Greene, a mobster who rose to the top of organized crime in Cleveland during the late 1970s. It’s very much a mob movie, with sit downs and shoot outs, and union corruption, etc. Except with an Irish flair, which means more car bombings than I’ve ever seen in a single movie.
Also featuring a virtual who’s who of mob movie character actors, “Kill the Irishman” is a solid, low-budget gangster flick for those who are fans of the genre.
With the passing of Tony Scott last week, I knew that I wanted to feature one of his films as this week’s MTESS.
There were a number of choices… as I studied his filmography, I was surprised at just how many really good movies he had left us.
But there really was only one choice to feature first. It’s the movie that the media deemed his biggest, often mentioning it in the headlines last week right alongside his name. It’s a quintessential “Tom Cruise movie”, and a shining example of the slick, entertaining action movies that were so in vogue in the 1980s. A movie that has earned a permanent name for itself in pop culture.

Alright! The first wave of Panel Videos is up! First up? Francis Ford Coppola, presenting “TWIXT” alongside Val Kilmer.
For those of you who don’t know, you’re not allowed to record the actual footage they bring with them, so the video stops whenever he would go to the film.
