Movies That Everyone Should See: “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy”

There was a time, a time before cable. When the local anchorman reigned supreme. When people believed everything they heard on TV. This was an age when only men were allowed to read the news. And in San Diego, one anchorman was more man then the rest.

His name was Ron Burgundy.

He was like a god walking amongst mere mortals. He had a voice that could make a wolverine purr and suits so fine they made Sinatra look like a hobo.

In other words, Ron Burgundy was the balls.

San Diego Comic-Con International 2012: This is why Comic-Con is World Renown

This is why people camp out overnight.

Hall H today is why television networks cover the convention.

Why people travel from all over the world. Guam. Brazil. Canada. England. Heard them all this week. All over.

This is why Comic-Con is worth the big bucks, the headaches, the sleep deprivation, the hunger pains, the bursting bladder, the sore back, the blisters on your feet.

This is WHY.

Because you just do NOT GET stuff like this anywhere else.

New Episode of The (title pending) Movie Podcast with Tank and Fogs!!

It’s time for another episode of The (title pending) Movie Podcast with Tank and Fogs!

In our box office round-up, we have plenty to say about the disastrous performance of “John Carter”, and then for our featured reviews, we discuss “21 Jump Street”, and “Casa di me Padre”.

Inspired by “Casa de mi Padre”, our featured discussion this week is focused on the career of Will Ferrell. Tank and I break down our impressions of him and discuss our opinions on most of not all of his major roles. From his days on SNL through the huge successes of “Anchorman” and “Talladega Nights”, we go over it all!

So be sure to check it out, you don’t want to miss hearing Tank try to speak Spanish!

You can download the episode directly here, or as always, search for us on iTunes!

As always, you can drop us feedback here, or give us a like on our Facebook page and keep up with the goings on all week long!

Tossin’ It Out There: What Do YOU Think Of Will Ferrell?

With “Casa de mi Padre” opening this week, I thought it would be a good opportunity to turn to one of our “What do you think of ___” discussions, this time, Will Ferrell.

Will Ferrell can actually be a pretty divisive comic. There are a number of people who love his movies and consider his best comedies to be classics, and then a number of others who think either he’s a one trick pony (playing the same character over and over again) or just don’t find him funny.

The Tank and I go over our feelings on his career tomorrow on (title pending), but I wanted to hear how YOU felt. Do you think Ferrell is an insane genius? A hysterical clown who can crack you up by reading a soup recipe? Or does he rub you the wrong way? Maybe his movies fall flat for you, or you feel like he’s just doing the same silly stuff again and again and again.

Which ever side of the fence you want to fall out on, we want to hear it! What do YOU think of Will Ferrell?!

Casa de mi Padre

Will Farrell goes to Mexico, fights drug barons, speaks spanish, sings by a campfire and gets into gun fights. It’s a silly (and funny) enough concept as it is, but he and his team put together a movie that mocks the low production values of the genre, and then take some extreme liberties by moving the film occasionally into the surreal.

It’s a high risk comedy. If it connects, you’ll likely find it hysterical. If you don’t, you’ll likely think it’s a travesty.

One thing is for sure though… Will Ferrell haters need not apply.

Now showing on cable: “Megamind”

Premiering this weekend on HBO was “Megamind”, 2010’s animated movie featuring the voices of Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill and David Cross.

It poses the question: What would happen if Evil triumphed?

Ferrell stars as the titular large headed, blue skinned evil genius with a penchant for mis-pronunciation. He escapes his dying planet at the same time as Brad Pitt’s Metro Man escapes his. Together they grow up as polar opposites… Metro Man the heroic champion of the city, and Megamind his despicable arch nemesis.

When Megamind succeeds in his plan to kill Metro Man, he realizes the true meaning of “Be careful what you wish for.”
